Dan Holland scored a superb century to keep Worcestershire Under-17s in contention on day two of the ECB County Championship match with Somerset Under-17s at Bath.
He came to the wicket at 14-1 and was last out at 259 in reply to Somerset’s first innings total of 354.
Holland, who plays for Dumbleton in the West Of England Cricket League, shared in a second wicket stand of 91 with Bilal Hussain whose 43 off 112 balls included five boundaries.
But there was no other contribution above 20 although Josh Baker, who picked up six wickets in Somerset’s first innings, helped Holland add 45 for the eighth wicket.
Holland was finally dismissed by Cameron Harding – one of three Somerset bowlers to take three wickets – after striking 20 fours in his 236 ball knock.
His hundred followed that of another Under-17 player in Xavie Clarke in the opening Championship game with Hampshire at Stourbridge last week.
Harding ended with 3-36, Tom Hall 3-28 and Julius Sumerauer 3-48.
Worcestershire then fought back with the back and claimed four wickets before the close.
Two of them went to Ed Bragg who had enjoyed a six wicket return against Hampshire as the home side closed on 133-4 – an overall lead of 228 heading into the final day.
