worcestershire ccc will host the 37th australian cricket team to appear at New Road from tomorrow (wednesday) when the full touring side are in action in a three-day match between the first and second ashes tests

these previous fixtures include men’s, women’s, and age group xis since1902.

5,6,7 may 1993, allan border’s australians 262 & 287-5, worcestershire ccc 90 & 458-4 dec, lost by 5 wickets despite graeme hick scoring 187 in the second innings. shane warne was hit for 1-122 in 23 overs. david boon scored 108 & 106.

22,23,24 july 1995, young australia 332-3 dec & 220-9, wccc 397 & 198-6 dec, match drawn as the aussie last pair, langer & mcintyre batted out the last 8.2 overs. the aussie team was not all that young, and steve rhodes hit 122 not out.

18 may 1997, the first ever one day game, drew a crowd of 4,500 who saw worcestershire beat mark taylor’s australians 121 (35 overs), wccc 123-5 (38.5 overs), by five wickets. future worcestershire ceo, david leatherdale took 5-10, and gavin haynes 4-40. a lorry had to pull the aussie tour bus out of some mud.

21-24 august 1998, australia women 427-4 dec, england women 243 & 190-6, match drawn.

10 may 1999, in a world cup warm-up game, australians 181-4 (34.1 overs), wccc 162-7 (44 overs), lost by six wickets on duckworth lewis. adam gilchrist hit 86. this was also the day that the duke of edinburgh arrived at new road by helicopter and planted a tree in the car park, to celebrate 100 years of worcestershire in the county championship.

1,2,3 june 2001, steve waugh’s australians 351 & 360-8 dec, wccc 163 & 188, lost by 360 runs. current worcestershire ceo, matt rawnsley took 6-198 with his left arm spin. damian martyn scored 108, and glenn mcgrath took 3-31, & 4-31.

30,31 july 1 august 2005, ricky ponting’s australians 406-9 dec & 161-2, wccc 187, match drawn after heavy rain. a feature of the game was when past worcestershire player, glenn mcgrath, and spinner shane warne were diligent 12th men in turn.

19 august 2005, at kidderminster, australia women 193-8 (50 overs), england women 123-8 (32 overs), australia won by five runs on duckworth lewis.

24-27 august 2005, on pitch 9, australia women 131 & 232, england women 289 & 75-4, england won by six wickets.

1,2,3,4 july 2009, on pitch 9, ricky ponting’s australians 358 & 438-4 dec, england lions 352 & 162-4, match drawn. played over four warm sunny days, mike hussey hit 150, and marcus north 191 not out. worcestershire players involved were stephen moore (120), steven davies and vikram solanki.

10-13 july 2009, australia women 309 & 231, england women 268 & 106-3, match drawn.

2,3,4,5 july 2013, an raf helicopter delivered the match ball, australians 396-4 dec & 344-5 dec, wccc 284 & 274-5, match drawn. skipper michael clarke 124, shane watson 109. nick compton, 79 & 26, was a guest player for wccc.

26,27 july 2015, pitch 8, australia women 242-7 (50 overs), england women 152 (43.1 overs), australia won by 89 runs.

22 august 2015, australia under 19s 294-6 (50 overs), england under 19s 297-6 (49.4 overs), england won by four wickets. wccc legend, graeme hick returned to new road and the pavilion named after him, as aussie team manager.

25 june 2019, the match v australia a was moved to kidderminster from new road because of the 16 june flood peak. however, the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled, after more rain.
