worcestershire ccc will host the 37th australian cricket team to appear at New Road from tomorrow (wednesday) when the full touring side are in action in a three-day match between the first and second ashes tests

18 may 1997, the first ever one day game, drew a crowd of 4,500 who saw worcestershire beat mark taylor’s australians 121 (35 overs), wccc 123-5 (38.5 overs), by five wickets. future worcestershire ceo, david leatherdale took 5-10, and gavin haynes 4-40. a lorry had to pull the aussie tour bus out of some mud.

10 may 1999, in a world cup warm-up game, australians 181-4 (34.1 overs), wccc 162-7 (44 overs), lost by six wickets on duckworth lewis. adam gilchrist hit 86. this was also the day that the duke of edinburgh arrived at new road by helicopter and planted a tree in the car park, to celebrate 100 years of worcestershire in the county championship.
