Hero Joe Aiming To Shine For County And Boost England Chances

North hero Joe Clarke is aiming to produce the goods on a consistent basis for Worcestershire this summer as he bids to “knock on the door” for an England spot.

Clarke impressed the watching selectors by scoring 229 runs in three innings for the North in their 2-1 win over the South in the Caribbean including 112 in the decider at the Three W’s Oval.

It followed up his scores of 46 and 71 in the opening two games at the Kensington Oval as the North avenged last year’s 3-0 defeat and led to him being voted Player Of The Series

Clarke, who was unable to field during the South innings because of a hamstring injury,  said: “It is certainly a big difference from when involved last year and having a 3-0 hammering off The South.

“It was nice to contribute to a Series win.

“It has been frustrating. It felt like I should have gone on and got a big score a couple of days ago. When I got in today I wanted to make sure I did that.

“It was nice to get to three figures and make a proper contribution for the side and luckily it paid off and we got the win.

“Last year was really competitive and so was this year considering a lot of the boys have just been on tour together (with England Lions) and grown quite close.”

Clarke added: “With England, you never really know how close you are. I’ve done a few Lions tours now and hopefully my performances here have knocked on the door a little bit.

“But hopefully I will go back to the UK and have a good season for Worcestershire and see where it goes.

“It’s all well and good showing a little bit of a glimpse here but it’s all down to going back and doing it for Worcestershire and being very consistent and knocking on that door.”
