Alex Hepburn was delighted to make a positive contribution with the ball on his first team debut for Worcestershire Rapids in the eight wicket win over Leicestershire Foxes in the Royal London One-Day Cup at New Road and said: "I couldn't be happier."
Hepburn marked the day it was announced he had signed a contract extension with a return of 4-34 from 9.5 overs.
He dismissed Lewis Hill, Ned Eckersley, Zak Chappell and Atif Sheikh and led the players off the field after the Foxes were bowled out for 172.
Hepburn said: "It went a lot better than expected really. I just wanted to come to the side and make a contribution. To come in and get a win in my first game, was ideal.
"To be honest I was more nervous in the warm-up. I didn't know what to expect. To get involved so early in the game, coming on in the 12th or 13th over, from ball one I was just excited to be out there.
"To get a wicket in your second over was great. My first ball was a full wide long hop so I thought 'in a bit of trouble' but I managed to pull it back and bowl pretty well."
Hepburn says there is no margin for error when bowling at senior level.
He said: "It's more the fact if you miss, you know you are going to the boundary. In club cricket and second eleven cricket, you can get away with bad balls.
"At the top level if you miss it, you are in trouble.
"The crowd get behind you. If anything, they help you out, especially the home crowd. They are great.
"I was looking to make a contribution and to come out with four wickets, I couldn't be happier."
Hepburn has had an excellent season with bat and ball in the Second Eleven.
He said: "I've done reasonably well. With the Seconds, it's been a breakthrough summer with the bat really and being a more consistent bowler in the Seconds.
"I used t be a part-timer and got a chance to bowl with a newish ball this year and it's going really well."
Hepburn has signed a one year contract extension until the end of the 2016 season but hopes he can enjoy an elongated stay at New Road.
He said: "If I can keep holding my place in the one-day stuff and producing some performances, hopefully I will be able to stay for a lot longer."
