HENRY CULLEN QUICKLY MAKES HIS MARK AFTER RAIN RELENTS IN MELBOURNE

Worcestershire keeper-batter Henry Cullen was immediately amongst the runs when the rain relented in Melbourne and allowed him to make his debut for Plenty Valley CC.

Cullen and his team-mates had suffered four successive wash-outs after he had flown out to Australia in early October.

But he finally had the chance to play in the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association encounter with Kew CC at Yarrambat War Memorial Park.

Cullen was his side’s top scorer with 72 after going in at 4-1in pursuit of a target of 217 in 45 overs.

He struck one six and three fours and put on 97 for the fifth wicket with Plenty Valley captain Michael Rogneda (49) to rescue the side from 59-4.

Cullen was eventually fifth out with the total on 156, and Green Point eventually closed on 184-7 from 45 overs and went down by 32 runs.

He had earlier taken one catch as Kew CC, who opted to bat first, totalled 216 all out in 43.4 overs after collapsing from 156-1.

Gareth Roderick made another solid contribution for Green Point CC to help them to a seven wicket win over Kraaifontein CC in the Western Province Premier Division.

The Worcestershire keeper-batter made 40 from 72 balls with three boundaries as Green Point chased down a 172 target with 10.5 overs to spare.

Roderick added 77 for the second wicket with opener Zac Elkin who remained unbeaten on 74.

Earlier, Roderick had taken catches to dismiss three of the first four Kraaifontein batters, and they were bowled out for 171 in 45.1 overs after winning the toss.
