Head Named In Australian ‘A’ Squad To Tour India

Travis Head has been included in the Australia ‘A’ team squad for the tour of India in August and September.

The Worcestershire 2018 overseas player has been named by Cricket Australia in both the one-day and four-day squads for the month long tour.

Head, who is currently preparing for Australia’s ODI Series versus England and the mini T20 tour of Zimbabwe, will skipper the one-day squad in India.

It means that Worcestershire will be searching for a new overseas player for that block of the campaign.

Head Coach Kevin Sharp said: “We thought we had Travis until the middle of September. It is now not the case and there is nothing we can do about it.

“We are disappointed but myself and CEO Matt Rawnsley and captain Joe Leach will consider what options are now available and, as soon as we have any news, we will make an announcement.”

Head played in the opening five Specsavers County Championship and first four Royal London One-Day Cup matches of the campaign,

He has been replaced for the remaining One-Day Cup matches by compatriot Callum Ferguson who scored 192 on his debut versus Leicestershire Foxes yesterday.

The squads released by Cricket Australia for the tour of India are:

Australia A one-day squad: Travis Head (capt), Alex Carey (vc), Ashton Agar, Peter Handscomb, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, Matthew Renshaw, Jhye Richardson, D’Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Mitch Swepson, Chris Tremain, Jack Wildermuth
