HAYNES HELPS ENGLAND TRIUMPH IN DRESS REHEARSAL FOR FINAL

Jack Haynes helped England Under-19s defeat Sri Lanka Under-19s by 44 runs in a dress rehearsal for Saturday’s Tri-Series final in the Caribbean at Coolidge Cricket Ground.

The Worcestershire CCC batsman struck 39 – his highest score so far in the Tri-Series – as England amassed 292-4 in their 50 overs.

Haynes came to the wicket at 74-2 and added 79 for the third wicket with century-maker Jordan Cox in 20.5 overs.

The 18-year-old worked hard for his runs and hit one boundary in his 63 ball knock.

Haynes was eventually bowled by slow left armer Sonal Dinusha with the total on 153 in the 38th over.

Cox finished unbeaten on 105 but it was Joey Evison who gave the England innings late momentum with an unbeaten 50 from 18 balls including six sixes.

Sri Lanka were given a positive start by openers Navod Paranavithana (73) and Kamil Mishara (40) who put on 103 in 16.2 overs.

But wickets then fell at regular intervals and Sri Lanka closed on 248-9.
