Hard Slog For Seconds Bowlers As Wood And Hughes Hit Hundreds

Hard Slog For Seconds Bowlers As Wood And Hughes Hit Hundreds

Tom Wood and Alex Hughes scored centuries for Derbyshire Seconds on day one of the Second Eleven Championship match with Worcestershire Seconds at the 3aaa County Ground.

Chris Russell and Josh Tongue picked up one wicket apiece for Worcestershire after the home side had elected to bat.

But it was a hard slog for the bowlers with opener Wood and Hughes sharing a third wicket stand of 222 in 52 overs.

Worcestershire skipper George Rhodes employed nine bowlers in a bid to find further breakthroughs.

Russell enjoyed the first success in having JA Tattersall caught behind by Alex Milton for 24 with 47 on the board.

Wood then added 96 with Scott Elstone (47) who was bowled by Tongue.

Encouragingly, Tongue was able to deliver 18 overs and finished with the highly respectable figures of 1-52 as he continued his comeback from a back injury.

Wood remained unbeaten on 186 from 296 balls with three sixes and 19 fours.

Hughes made 118 from 164 deliveries with one six and 15 fours before he was run out by Josh Dell.
