Martin Guptill hit a second century in four days to help New Zealand secure an eight wicket victory over Bangladesh in Christchurch and clinch the ODI Series.
Worcestershire’s 2018 overseas player followed up his unbeaten 117 in Napier earlier in the week by racing to 118 as the Black Caps chased down a 227 target with more than 13 overs to spare.
Opener Guptill, who scored the fastest century of the 2018 domestic season when playing for the Rapids, needed only 33 balls to reach his fifty.
His century came up in the 25th over and he hit four sixes – three of them back past the bowler – and 14 fours.
Guptill shared in a second wicket partnership of 143 in just 21 overs with New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (65 not out).
The 32-year-old was eventually dismissed at 188-2 in the 29th over after another exhibition of his dazzling stroke play.
It was his 16th ODI hundred along with 34 fifties and he has amassed 6,411 runs in that format of the game for his country at an average of 43.61.
Williamson and Ross Taylor (21 not out) saw the home side to victory in 36.1 overs. Bangladesh had earlier been bowled out for 226 in 49.4 overs.
The final game of the series takes place in Dunedin on Tuesday.
Guptill played seven Vitality Blast matches for the Rapids last summer and his century against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road came off only 35 balls.
