GIDMAN PRAISE AND CHALLENGE TO TWOHIG AFTER SEASON LONG ABSENCE

head coach alex gidman has praised the attitude and application of worcestershire ccc spinner ben twohig after he missed the entire 2019 season through injury and wants him to demonstrate his form and fitness and again compete for a spot this summer.

twohig suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during pre-season which thwarted his hopes of adding to the eight county championship appearances in 2018.

gidman said the 21-year-old could have featured last season – possibly in all formats

twohig has returned to New Road after spending the winter in australia playing for southern districts and unley cc.

gidman said: “the injury came at the worst possible time for him. he knows that. he had a real good opportunity to break into the team.

“what happened, has happened. the fact he has missed as much as he did was a big blow to him.

“ben knows firstly he needs to prove his fitness and then back that up with performances.

“he offers a huge amount with his fielding and his ability to bat as well, but also his competitiveness.’’

gidman added: “it is about coming back stronger now. his attitude last year after the injury was fantastic.

“he worked extremely hard on his fitness and his rehab so i’m sure he will come back a better cricketer and a better professional for it.

“most important is he gets through things fitness wise and can just focus on his cricket as opposed to worrying about whether his knee is strong enough.”
