GIDMAN – ANY APPEARANCE FOR COUNTY BY MO WILL BE “A HUGE BONUS”

Alex Gidman says Worcestershire will continue to view any appearance by Moeen Ali for the County as “a huge bonus”.

The England all-rounder made a massive impact as Rapids Vitality Blast captain, averaging 73 with the bat and hitting more sixes – 30 – than anyone in the competition.

He has been awarded a white ball contract by the ECB for the 2019-20 campaign as opposed to the full contract encompassing all formats.

First Team Coach Gidman said: “We will still prepare to not have Mo. That’s the way we’ve done it for a number of years, certainly this year and last year.
“We still want Mo to be involved with England, because he is still an outstanding player, so we will prepare not to have him.

“Then when we see him it is a bonus and makes us a better team.

“I don’t know what the situation will be in terms of the amount of red ball cricket he will be available for because of commitments like the IPL.

“For the time being, we will prepare like we have the last couple of years. When we get him, it’s a huge bonus.”

Moeen has played in the IPL for the past two tournaments with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
