Gatsby New Year’s Eve Ball Introduces Mitch’s Benefit Year

Gatsby New Year’s Eve Ball Introduces Mitch’s Benefit Year

Worcestershire CCC will end their 150th Anniversary Year in style with the Gatsby New Year's Eve Ball and introduce the beginning of skipper Daryl Mitchell’s Benefit Year 2016.

The celebration of Worcestershire past, present and future will be staged in the Graeme Hick Pavilion on December 31st and promises to be a night to remember after a memorable 12 months celebrating a landmark year in the County's history.

The Graeme Hick Pavilion will be decked out 1920’s style and tickets, which cost £85, include cocktails, canapes, a three course carved banquet, fireworks and live music from The Jazz Spivs.

Numbers are being limited to just 150 – an appropriate number in this special Anniversary Year – so book now to avoid disappointment as tickets are selling fast!

Daryl said: "The Gatsby Ball is a great way to bring down the curtain on the 150th Anniversary Year which has been such a landmark 12 months in the County's proud history.

"There have been many memorable functions to mark the year and this promises to be another quality event.

"But it is also the perfect occasion to introduce my own benefit year in 2016 and the many functions I will be staging in the next 12 months after the Club kindly granted me a benefit.

"It promises to be a busy time with being captain of a young but talented team, opening the batting, and having a new baby, but it is something I will relish.

"This club means so much to me, I feel so proud every time I wear the shirt, and it will be great if I can mark the benefit year by helping the team get back in Division One."

Worcestershire Commercial Director Jon Graham said:  "We want to sign off the 150th Anniversary Year in style and I'm delighted to say the Gatsby Ball will mark not only the end of the 150th Anniversary Year but also the start of Daryl Mitchell's Benefit Year.

"At 11.59 we will say goodbye to the 150th Anniversary and at one second past midnight will signify the start of the Daryl Mitchell benefit year.

"It is great timing. Mitch is the success story of what cricket in this county is all about, the local lad who has played cricket locally all his life, gone to local schools, come through every different age group in the academy and scored bundles and bundles of runs.

“We are looking to have an auction, details of which are to be confirmed. But there will be lots of 'money can't buy' one-offs.

"It is great for Mitch and great we can sign off the 150th but then start something else which in its own way is as important given the contribution he has made to the club."

Graham added: "People don't usually think about booking New Year until half-way through December because everyone is thinking about Christmas but early signs are ticket sales are going well.

"There is a live band, a DJ, and the room will be decorated in such a way to make you feel you are in 1920’s Chicago.

"You've also got the on-site hotel so if you book in there you haven't got to worry about getting a taxi home.

"We are happy with the way it is going, we have done some cracking promotions and it is worth keeping an eye out for Mitch on the various artwork making an appearance as Gatsby!"
