Five Wickets For Twohig With Pink Ball In Day-Night Clash At Edgbaston

Five Wickets For Twohig With Pink Ball In Day-Night Clash At Edgbaston

Spinner Ben Twohig returned a five wicket haul for Worcestershire on day one of the day-night Second Eleven Championship match with Warwickshire Seconds at Edgbaston.

Twohig bowled with a pink Dukes ball as part of the experiment ahead of a possible day-night Test between England and the West Indies in Birmingham next summer.

The England Under-19 player finished with 5-61 from 22.1 overs as Warwickshire declared on 304-9.

Worcestershire openers Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Ollie Westbury negotiated six overs in reaching 15-0 by the close.

The match was played in the centre of the square on the wicket used for the recent Test match between England and Pakistan.

Warwickshire opted to bat after winning the toss when play got underway at the scheduled 2pm start time and quickly lost Will Porterfield and Liam Banks to Chris Russell and Pat Brown respectively.

Andy Umeed and Matt Lamb added 88 for the third wicket before the former was caught at slip by Kohler-Cadmore off George Scrimshaw for 45 and the latter was bowled by Twohig for 54.

Aaron Thomason dominated the remainder of the innings in making 120 off 159 balls with one six and 18 fours.

He added 94 for the fifth wicket with Ateeq Javid and was eighth out at 298, caught by Ollie Westbury at mid on off Pat Brown.

Twohig worked his way effectively through the middle and lower order in completing his five wicket tally.

Both first innings will be played using the pink Dukes balls and both second innings will be played using the pink Kookaburra balls.
