Tom Odell’s five wicket burst helped Worcestershire Academy to a 148 run victory over Shropshire in a two-day encounter at Worfield CC.
Shropshire had been set a 263 target and reached 57-2 but then Odell picked up five of the next six wickets after coming on second change.
He finished with figures of 8-2-24-5 as Shropshire were dismissed for 114 in 30.1 overs and was well supported by Asad Ullah Azami (2-24).
Worcestershire won the toss and totalled 228-9 declared on day one with Henry Hardinges (41) and Lucas Ingram (53) putting on 82 for the first wicket.
Yusuf Akbar (27), Ciaran Baker-Smith (24) and Azami (29 not out) all made useful contributions.
In reply, Shropshire reached 158-0 but were then dismissed for 262 thanks chiefly to a five wicket haul from Azami.
He had a final analysis of 5-73 from 16.1 overs with Zain Sabir (2-36) and Baker-Smith (2-25) also amongst the wickets.
Hardinges top-scored with 89 off 86 balls with one six and 15 fours in Worcestershire’s second innings.
He put on 62 for the fourth wicket with Joe Porter (25) and the second half of the innings was dominated by Baker-Smith whose unbeaten 88 off 84 balls contained one maximum and 11 other boundaries.
Sam Clement (43 off 28 balls) put on 92 for the sixth wicket with Baker-Smith before the declaration at 296-8 from 48 overs.
