Finch’s First Five Wicket Haul Puts Seconds In The Driving Seat

Finch’s First Five Wicket Haul Puts Seconds In The Driving Seat

Adam Finch produced his first five wicket haul for Worcestershire Seconds who bowled out a powerful Yorkshire Seconds side for 197 on the second day of the Championship clash at RGS Worcester.

Finch, who has been selected for England Under-19s and the ODI Series against India next month, produced the superb figures of 9.3-3-19-5.

All five of his victims were bowled or lbw – an indication of the accuracy of his bowling.

Finch received excellent support from Alex Hepburn (10-2-35-3) as Worcestershire gained a first innings lead of 86.

Then Josh Dell and Hepburn figured in an unbroken stand of 60 to steer Worcestershire to 82-2 by the close – a lead of 168 heading into the final day.

Coach Kevin Sharp will be delighted with the way his side have so far stood up and been counted against opponents containing several first team players.

Rain prevented any play before lunch and when proceedings got underway at 2.15pm there were still 79 overs left in the day.

Yorkshire resumed on 2-0 and Finch made the first breakthrough by bowling Jonathan Tattersall (10) with 45 on the board.

Tattersall had earlier required lengthy treatment after being hit on the arm by a George Scrimshaw delivery.

Alex Lees reached a half century but did not add to his score before falling victim to Dillon Pennington after hitting six fours in his 87 ball knock. He was caught by Dell at mid wicket.

Will Rhodes (37) was caught and bowled by Zen Malik as Yorkshire went to tea on 132-3.

Hepburn struck with the second ball after the resumption as Matthew Waite (21) was bowled by Hepburn.

Yorkshire reached 174-4 as Andrew Hodd and Liam Plunkett put on 42 in eight overs.

But, when Hepburn bowled Liam Plunkett (24), it sparked a collapse as the last six wickets fell for 23 runs in 8.5 overs to the County attack.

Worcestershire lost two early wickets when they batted for a second time.

But Dell (31 not out) and Hepburn (28 not out) ensured the home side cemented their position of strength.
