Tom Fell continued his fine form with a second successive century to spearhead a Worcestershire recovery on the opening day of the LV = County Championship match with Glamorgan at New Road.
Fell followed up his maiden Championship hundred against Leicestershire at Grace Road by hitting a career best 133 as Worcestershire recovered from 39-3 to reach 266-5 off 96 overs.
With Tom Kohler-Cadmore also hitting a second successive half century, the efforts of the duo were a fitting legacy to Academy director Damian D'Oliveira, who passed away earlier in the day after a long battle against cancer, as they both came through the New Road ranks.
Indeed, there were seven graduates from the county's Academy in the side.
Fell and Kohler-Cadmore came together at 93-4 and added 168 in 52 overs. The partnership was finally broken with four overs remaining of the day when Fell was bowled by the impressive Michael Hogan for 133 made off 246 balls with 20 fours.
Kohler-Cadmore finished unbeaten on 60 with nightwatchman Jack Shantry on five not out.
Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell elected to bat after winning the toss and the home side gave a Championship debut to opener Richard Oliver in place of Matt Pardoe after his 292 not out for the second eleven last week against Warwickshire.
Moeen Ali also returned to the side after England duty at the expense of Ross Whiteley.
Oliver who survived a difficult chance at square leg off Hogan, made 13 before he drove at the same bowler and was caught in the gulley by Dean Cosker.
Ali was given a standing ovation on his way to the wicket after his superb 100 for England in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Headingley.
But after making 10 he top edged an attempted pull against Rory Smith and Chris Cooke held onto the catch running back to square leg.
It became 39-3 two balls later when the in-form Mitchell (15) cut Smith to Cosker to gulley.
Fell and Alexei Kervezee slowly but surely started to effect a recovery as Worcestershire reached 56-3 off 30 overs at lunch.
The scoring rate increased in the afternoon session with Fell cutting and straight driving Smith for two boundaries in an over.
Kervezee twice straight drove Hogan for four and then Fell twice cut Smith to the ropes as the 50 partnership was raised in 21 overs.
Worcestershire were also awarded five penalty runs when the ball hit one of the fielding side's helmets.
Kervezee (21) was caught behind by Glamorgan skipper Mark Wallace off Hogan with the total on 93.
But Fell was then given good support by Kohler-Cadmore in the major stand of the day.
A single to mid off took Fell to his half century off 125 balls with eight fours.
The pair scored freely and a boundary by Fell off Smith raised the half century partnership in 18 overs.
By tea Fell had moved onto 81 and Kohley Cadmore 22.
Fell showed no nerves as he approached three figures and a cut for four and a cover-drive off Jim Allenby hurried him onto 95.
The 20-year-old needed only 51 balls to move from 50 to 100.
Kohler Cadmore used his feet to loft spinner Andrew Salter for a straight six but he also exercised great patience and his half century came off 120 balls and also included five fours.
