Worcestershire newcomer Ethan Brookes scored a century on his first appearance of the winter for Prahran CC in a Victoria Men’s Premier Cricket first grade encounter with Northcote.
Brookes, who has signed a two-year contract at New Road, resumed on 25 not out and went on to score 104 to help his side to first innings points.
He came in at 59-2 and struck three sixes and 11 fours in his 204 ball knock before he was eighth out at 246.
Prahran went on to score 323 all out in reply to Northcote’s first day total of 187 all out.
Gareth Roderick played a key role with the bat in skippering Green Point to a five wicket success over Rylands in a Western Province Premier League 50-over fixture.
Roderick went to the wicket at 47-2 in the 11th over in pursuit of a 197 target and saw his side over the finishing line with an unbeaten 58 from 62 deliveries with four boundaries.
He put on 87 for the third wicket with opener Patrick van Niekerk (69) and a further 53 for the fifth with Jurie Norval (18).
Roderick helped Green Point to secure victory on only 34 overs.
Ed Pollock spent the first day of his debut for St. George in the field in a New South Wales Premier Cricket first grade meeting with UTS North Sydney.
Pollock took one catch to dismiss top-scorer Mac Jenkins for 58 as UTS reached 178-7 from 60.1 overs by the close of a shortened day. Play will continue next Saturday.
Josh Baker did not bat on the opening day as his side, Northern District, reached 187-4 from 54.3 overs in a second grade fixture versus Randwick Petersham which will also be concluded next weekend.
Worcestershire 2022-2023 Academy captain Joe Stanley top-scored with 56 and picked up 2-41 from nine overs, but his side, Railway, went down by five wickets to Royals in an Albany and District Cricket Association ‘A’ grade fixture.
Stanley hit five fours in his 117 balls innings out of a total of 172-7 in 45 overs but struck with the ball after coming on second change, but Royals won with 7.1 overs to spare.
