England To Run Late Fitness Check On Moeen Ahead Of Lord’s Clash

England To Run Late Fitness Check On Moeen Ahead Of Lord’s Clash

England will run a final fitness check on Moeen Ali ahead of today's second Investec Ashes Test at Lord's but are hopeful he will be fit to play.

The Worcestershire all-rounder, who played a major part in the first Test win in Cardiff, is suffering from a side strain.

But the 28-year-old was able to bat and bowl in the nets yesterday after not taking part in practice the previous day.

England's other spinning option, Yorkshire's Adil Rashid, has a finger problem.

Skipper Alastair Cook said at his pre-match press conference: "Moeen felt his side a tiny bit after the last game and, with his previous history, the medical team were wrapping him in cotton wool.

'"We'll make a final call tomorrow (Thursday) but it was more precautionary yesterday (Tuesday)."

Moeen missed the first Test of the tour of the West Indies in April with a side strain.

Cook said: "I don't think it's the same injury. It's like always when you've got two games back to back, you're a little bit careful with training.

"But unless he gets a reaction overnight I expect him to be in our side.''

Moeen will return to the scene of his Test debut last summer against Sri Lanka.
