EDAVALATH HITS 73 AND BROWN PICKS UP FOUR WICKETS IN SECONDS TRIUMPH

Rehaan Edavalath top-scored with 73 and captain Pat Brown picked up four wickets as Worcestershire CCC Seconds defeated South Asian Cricket Academy by 107 runs under the Duckworth Lewis Method at Stourbridge.

Seconds Coach Kadeer Ali handed debuts to Academy player, Ben Clarke, Pathway player, Callum Bennett, and Angus Catto (Frocester).

Clarke plays for Barnards Green and is a bowling all-rounder who delivers left arm spin, batter Bennett plays for Kidderminster, while Catto is another all-rounder who bowls seam up.

The Seconds were put into bat and openers Oli Cox (46) and Josh Dell (54) put on 107 in just 14.2 overs.

The pair departed within four runs of each other but then Edavalath and Ben Cox maintained the momentum by adding 98 for the third wicket.

Cox made 57 from 60 deliveries with five boundaries before his dismissal at 209-3. It followed on from his half century versus Somerset

Edavalath added a further 49 with Ismael Mohammed before his fine knock came to an end.

Mohammed went onto make 44 from 38 balls in a total of 308-6 from 50 overs.

Hishaam Khan, who played for the Seconds against Warwickshire in a recent Championship match at Portland Road, finished with 3-66.

Gibbon was released from the first team squad in action against Derbyshire at New Road to share the new ball with Brown and they quickly had the SACA on the back foot.

Their opening burst reduced the visitors to 41-5 with Brown having figures of 7-0-31-3 and Gibbon 8-1-31-2.

After a rain break, the target was revised to 298 in 42 overs and Jujhar Johal (50) and Khan (49) added 81 for the sixth wicket before Ben Clarke dismissed them both during a spell of three wickets in four overs.

They were eventually bowled out for 190 in 37.3 overs with Brown returning to pick up a fourth wicket and end with figures of 8.3-0-39-4.
