Worcestershire’s opening three-day pre-season game with Durham UCCE at Kidderminster has been abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The umpires took the decision to call off the game after a lunch-time inspection on the opening day because of the extremely wet outfield conditions.
But the players will still be active as they are intending to make use of the net facilities at Chester Road during the next couple of days.
Worcestershire Assistant Head Coach, Kadeer Ali, said: “It’s disappointing that the game has been called off and both sides would have liked to have got a game in.
“But we are going to make use of the practice facilities for the next two and a half days and get some good sessions in before heading to Hampshire next week.
“The practice surfaces are good and we are looking forward to getting some good quality work in.”
Worcestershire are next scheduled to be in action against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl in a two-day fixture from Monday 25 March.
