Century-maker Brett D’Oliveira came out on top in the battle of the two Worcestershire openers as Ombersley stormed to a nine wicket win over Daryl Mitchell’s Brockhampton in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division.
Home side Brockhampton totalled 270-6 with Mitchell scoring 31 off 62 balls with five fours and D’Oliveira returning 3-56 from 12 overs.
Then D’Oliveira smashed an unbeaten 158 off 133 balls with three sixes and 23 fours as Ombersley reached 271-1 in 45 overs.
He shared in stands of 106 with Liam Gwynne (53) and 165 with Uday Kaul (56 not out) while Mitchell bowled seven overs for 47 runs.
Alexei Kervezee produced a similar performance to D’Oliveira for Bromsgrove in the Division One fixture with Smethwick.
The Worcestershire batsman scored 113 off 94 balls out of Bromsgrove’s 232 all out in 54.3 overs and then picked up three wickets for 34 runs as Smethwick just held on for a draw at 210-9.
Ben Twohig had figures of 17-0-90-3 and scored 15 while Tom Fell chipped in with 26 for Wolverhampton who fell just short of victory on 256-8 in reply to Keinilworth Wardens 258-9 in a Premier Division fixture.
In the same division, Ollie Westbury returned 2-44 and ran out Berkswell’s top scorer Chris Whitlock for 99 when in action for Shrewsbury. He scored 18 as Shrewbury finished on 204-7 after being set a 248 target.
George Rhodes ended with figures of 17-2-74-2 and scored 22 as Barnards Green went down by 112 runs to Moseley, bowled out for 165 in reply to 277-9 in Division One.
Charlie Morris bowled a tight spell of 6-2-9-2 as his side Bridgnorth bowled out Walmley for 94 and romped to a 10 wicket win.
Joe Clarke followed up his two hundreds against Kent by remaining unbeaten on 38 from 39 balls for Tamworth who chased down a 174 target and defeated Himley by eight wickets.
