DOLLY CONTINUES TO MAKE MARK WITH BALL IN WHITE BALL CRICKET

Club Captain Brett D’Oliveira will head into Thursday’s Metro Bank One Day Cup meeting with Gloucestershire at New Road as the joint leading wicket taker in the tournament.

The leg spinner picked up seven wickets from the opening three games and only Durham’s Liam Trevaskis has matched his excellent start with the ball.

It follows on from a successful Vitality Blast campaign in which D’Oliveira finished with 15 wickets at 18.66 and formed a successful spin combination with Usama Mir (19 wickets) and Mitchell Santner (12).

Now he has performed well in tandem with left arm spinner, Josh Baker, who has taken six wickets and has the best economy rate – 5.03 – of the Worcestershire bowlers who have played all three matches.

D’Oliveira admits it is about getting the balance right when captain as to when to bring himself into the attack.

But One Day Cup skipper Jake Libby has given him a leading role in the attack in all three One Day Cup fixtures.

D’Oliveira said: “Would I have bowled as much if captain? That’s definitely up for debate, and at times I probably should bowl more.

“It’s quite a difficult one when you are captain to know the right time to bowl.

“But I’ve got some good people around me I’ve used to say when to bowl and when not to bowl.

“If Libbs (Jake Libby) chucks me the ball and asks me to bowl 10 overs, then I’d be doing that. It’s a tough one to manage isn’t it because you don’t want to look like it’s your show almost.

“You are captain to make decisions and I just go with a gut feeling on the field really.”

Tickets for Thursday’s game against Gloucestershire are just £10 for adults and £1 for juniors.
