Dolly And Alexei Hit Fifties As Worcs Overhaul Warks Total At Edgbaston

Brett D'Oliveira and Alexei Kervezee continued their good form with the bat with half centuries for Worcestershire as they overhauled Warwickshire's first day total at Edgbaston.

Both sides had agreed to bat 50 overs apiece on day one of a scheduled two-day fixture between the local rivals because of a poor weather forecast tomorrow.

It was to ensure the two teams got in some good bowling and batting practice and Worcestershire scored 210-5 in reply to Warwickshire's 200-2.

D'Oliveira had scored a maiden first class century and Kervezee 59 in the second innings of the 482 run success over Oxford MCCU in The Parks.

Opener D'Oliveira struck another 65 off 85 balls against the Bears with 12 boundaries.

Kervezee finished unbeaten on 73 from 122 deliveries with two sixes and six fours as Worcestershire closed on 210-5 as they their 50 overs in reply to Warwickshire's 200-2.

The pair shared in a third wicket stand of 112 in 23 overs and came together after Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who was promoted to opener, and Joe Clarke had both been dismissed by Chris Wright for ducks.

After the stand had been broken, Ross Whiteley (15) and Ben Cox (13) were dismissed.

But skipper Daryl Mitchell came in at number seven and hit a quickfire unbeaten 34 off 37 balls with five fours to help Worcestershire go past the home side's total.

For Warwickshire, Laurie Evans retired not out for 65 and Sam Hain hit 78 not out.

Joe Leach made the first breakthrough for Worcestershire when former England batsman Jonathan Trott (7) was caught behind by Ben Cox with 18 on the board.

It became 61-2 when Warwickshire skipper Ian Bell was bowled by Ed Barnard for 23.

Charlie Morris took the new ball after coming into the side in place of Josh Tongue in the only change from the side in action against Oxford MCCU and bowled 12 overs – the same number as Barnard.
