Josh Dell and Alex Milton scored half centuries for Worcestershire Seconds on the opening day of the three-day friendly with Glamorgan Seconds at Abergavenny.
The pair came together with Worcestershire in trouble at 40-3 with the dismissal of Tom Fell, Ollie Westbury and Alex Hepburn after skipper Charlie Morris had elected to bat.
They added 102 in 30 overs and the Seconds were eventually dismissed for 268.
Milton played the more aggressive knock with his 60 coming off 86 balls with nine boundaries.
But Dell's contribution was equally important and he added a further 48 with Zen Malik before being dismissed for 70 from 166 deliveries with three fours.
Ben Twohig gave the innings late impetus in making 42 off 71 balls with two sixes and one four and he and Morris (27) put on 47 for the ninth wicket.
Lukas Carey was the most successful Glamorgan bowler with 6-71 from 19.2 overs.
Glamorgan were left with 15 overs batting and openers Nick Selman and Connor Brown put on 62 without being parted by the close.
