daryl mitchell has moved into the top 10 of all-time century makers for worcestershire in first class cricket.
the 34-year-old achieved that feat with his superb hundred on the opening day of the specsavers county championship clash with lancashire at New Road.
it was mitchell’s 31st ton for the county and moved him alongside county legends basil d’oliveira and alan ormrod and into joint ninth position.
badsey-born mitchell is also closing in on two more illustrious names in ron headley and former director of cricket tom moody.
they have both scored 32 hundreds for worcestershire.
mitchell said: “it is nice isn’t it. it’s not something you set out to do but the greats of worcestershire cricket are on that list and it’s nice to get in and around some of them.
“it was tom graveney i went past last year, who is a huge name in worcestershire cricket, and basil d’oliveira is another one.
“it is pleasing to be up there around those sort of guys in terms of scoring hundreds and hopefully there are still a few more to come this year and the next couple of years.
“to be in with that sort of company is amazing. i’m only about 80 behind hicky now! “
