daryl mitchell and ed barnard have moved out in front as worcestershire’s leading run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively in the specsavers county championship after their performances in the victory over lancashire at New Road.
mitchell has moved within six runs of the 500 mark for the campaign after his superb 118 and 163 against the red rose county – the fourth time he has scored two tons in a first class match.
he has overtaken travis head, joe clarke, tom fell and ed barnard after his run spree in worcestershire’s 202 run success.
mitchell has also moved up to joint seventh in the county’s list of all-time century-makers with 32 tons and passed 12,000 first class runs in his distinguished and lengthy career.
barnard has built on last season’s excellent form which saw him voted the supporters’ association player of the year when he polled 50 per cent of the votes.
he has already taken 27 championship wickets and is on course to overhaul his 2017 season’s best tally of 47.
in addition barnard has chipped in with vital contributions from numbers seven or eight with the bat to help bale the county out of some challenging positions.
