ben cox has moved into the top six of wicket-keepers who have completed the most first class dismissals for worcestershire.
cox has been steadily climbing the ‘top ten’ in the past couple of seasons after some superbly consistent performances for the county.
now he has leapfrogged syd buller (247 dismissals).
the 26-year-old clocked up his 250th victim for worcestershire in the opening home match against nottinghamshire when stuart broad was caught off the spin of travis head.
three more catches in surrey’s first innings at the kia oval lifted the total to 253 comprised of 241 catches and 12 stumpings.
there is now quite a gap to the next on the list in ernest bale (316) who played for worcestershire between 1908 and 1920.
but if cox maintains his excellent form, bale could come into range within a couple of seasons.
meanwhile, cox has the second highest number of dismissals in division one of the specsavers county championship after four rounds of matches this season.
he has 14 scalps to his name with only nottinghamshire’s tom moores – son of former worcestershire wicket-keeper peter moores – ahead of him.
next on the list is cox’s wicket-keeping hero in james foster, who will visit New Road with essex on friday, with 12 dismissals.
