Worcestershire’s battle for promotion to Division One of the Specsavers County Championship is going to the final match of the season!
The County are top of the table by six points ahead of the home clash with Durham beginning on Monday (10.30am start).
And it is six points that will be needed to ensure a return to the top flight and a fifth promotion in 11 years under Steve Rhodes – and 19 to go up as champions.
Worcestershire could have sealed their Division One return today (Friday) had Nottinghamshire defeated Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.
But Northamptonshire kept their own hopes alive by winning by 124 runs after Nottinghamshire had been set a 314 target.
Worcestershire are now on 216 points – six more than previous leaders Nottinghamshire who take on Sussex at Hove in their final fixture.
Northamptonshire are on 197 points and could reach 221 with a maximum points haul in their final match away to Leicestershire.
But, should they drop any points, then the number of points Worcestershire need will also be reduced accordingly.
