COUNTY YOUNGSTERS OFF TO WINNING START AGAINST LOCAL RIVALS

Worcestershire CCC Under-18s, including several current Academy players, powered to a five wicket win over local rivals Warwickshire at Barnt Green in their opening fixture of the season.

Fine bowling by Reeve Evitts, Ben Parker and Joe Stanley helped dismiss Warwickshire for 122 in 45.3 overs after they had elected to bat.

Pete Clark and Joe Miszkowski then shone with the bat as Worcestershire reached their target with 23.2 overs to spare.

Evitts (6-2-16-2) removed both Warwickshire openers and, with Parker also striking an early blow, the home side were reduced to 19-3.

They partially recovered to reach 76-3 but then Stanley removed top scorer Ashish Chakrapani for 50 on his way to excellent figures of 10-2-22-3.

Parker (7.3-3-14-3) returned to claim two further wickets with Josh Baker (10-1-38-1) and Oliver Halion (6-1-14-1) also picking up one wicket apiece.

In reply, Clark and Miszkowski ensured there were no alarms for Worcestershire during a second wicket stand of 83.

Clark (39 from 42 balls) struck five fours and Miszkowski (56 off 84 balls) hit two sixes and four other boundaries as Worcestershire reached 124-5 in 26.4 overs.
