County Trio Haynes, Finch And Ul-Hassan Chosen For Super Fours

County Trio Haynes, Finch And Ul-Hassan Chosen For Super Fours

A trio of Worcestershire CCC players have been selected for the ‘Super Fours’ at the National Performance Centre, Loughborough from August 22 to 26.

Jack Haynes, Adam Finch – with his second call-up – and Zain Ul-Hassan have been chosen to represent the Midlands in what is effectively the Under-17s equivalent of the Bunburys.

The tournament will offer the cream of the players in that age group the opportunity to show off their skills in front of watching England Development Programme coaches and selectors.

Worcestershire players have figured prominently in the tournament in recent years.

Six County players – including current first team regular Josh Tongue – helped the Midlands to win the prestigious tournament in 2015.

Then last year Josh Haynes and Finch, who had initially been named on stand-by, were involved.

Worcestershire CCC Academy coach Elliot Wilson said: “They have done really well, the three of them. Finchy played last year and Jack and Zain played Bunburys last year and have got into the Super Fours.

“Finchy will now go to Super Fours with a different sort of pressure on him. He will be one of those people everyone will be looking out for, the coaches and the players because of his England Under-19 recognition.

“Jack has played about four weeks now of second team cricket and has really stood up and showed a bit of quality.

“He has not looked out of place one little bit and fingers crossed it’s the start of a long period of time being involved professional cricket here at Worcestershire.

“Zain played a couple of one-day games for the second team earlier this year. He came onto the academy this year.

“He is from Stourbridge CC and has been one of our most consistent performers in all formats this year, three-day, 50 over and T20 cricket.

“He is a very effective cricketer. He is a first change seamer who bats four-five, very good in the field. He is an exciting one for me. He has captained the Under-17s the last couple of weeks.”

The Midlands will participate in a round-robin 50-over competition also involving London and East, North and South West and also a T20 competition.
