Moeen Ali was back to his brilliant best with the bat for England, but his superb knock proved in vain as Pakistan edged home by five runs in the third IT20 at Emirates Old Trafford.
The Worcestershire CCC all-rounder smashed 61 off just 33 balls and launched a sixes blitz against Shadab Khan as England chased a 191 target.
Moeen cleared the ropes on three occasions in one over from the spinner – straight down the ground, over long-off and then over the mid-wicket boundary.
It followed on from an earlier six against paceman Shaheen Afridi – an imperious hit over the ropes at extra cover.
His dazzling innings brought England right back into contention with 20 needed from the final two overs.
But Moeen’s heroics ended when he was caught and bowled off a short ball from Wahab Riaz who bowled a fine 19th over which proved decisive as England closed on 185-8 with the series ending 1-1.
Moeen had earlier picked up a wicket in his only over when sharing the new ball in bowling Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman with a fine delivery.
He will now turn his attention to England’s T20 and ODI Series against Australia.
