worcestershire ccc 2020 overseas signing, hamish rutherford, is part of the new zealand ‘a’ side which will face england in a three-day first class match at the cobham oval in whangarei beginning this evening (10pm).
rutherford has been included in a strong black caps line-up ahead of next week’s first test at the bay oval, mount maunganui on november 21.
the 30-year-old, who enjoyed two spells at New Road last summer, is one of nine players with international experience in the new zealand x1.
new zealand selector gavin larsen said: “it’s certainly a star-studded fixture and should prove a great spectacle for the locals.
“for our boys, it will be a great opportunity to test themselves against some of the very best players in the world.”
meanwhile, rutherford clocked up the 100th first class appearance of his career earlier this week.
he achieved the milestone when in action for otago volts in the plunket shield encounter versus northern districts at the university of otago oval.
rutherford had been scheduled to clock up his century of appearances in the previous match versus auckland aces but it was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
volts head coach rob walter said: “reaching 100 first-class matches is a milestone that every player sets out to achieve when they start playing cricket.”
in those 100 games, rutherford has scored 6115 runs at an average of 35.76 with 14 hundreds and 28 half centuries.
