COUNTY SIGNING RUTHERFORD AND VOLTS DENIED BY WEATHER

COUNTY SIGNING RUTHERFORD AND VOLTS DENIED BY WEATHER

Hamish Rutherford and leaders Otago Volts were denied the opportunity to complete a third successive win by the weather in the Super Smash return encounter with Auckland Aces.

Worcestershire 2020 overseas signing Rutherford had given his side early momentum by racing to 19 off eight balls before he was run out.

The opening batsman found the bowling of left arm paceman Benjamin Lister to his liking.

The 30-year-old struck him for two successive sixes.

Rutherford had scored a half century in the win against the Aces at the weekend and again looked in good touch before his dismissal.

But only 7.4 overs were possible after the Volts had been put into bat before the heavens opened.

They did not have the opportunity to add to their 55-2 before the game was abandoned.

Rutherford and the Volts are quickly back in action tomorrow – away to Wellington.
