worcestershire ccc 2020 overseas signing hamish rutherford smashed an unbeaten 81 to lead otago volts to a nine wicket win in their latest super smash clash against central districts in dunedin.
the opening batsman hit three sixes and eight fours in his 54 ball knock as the volts reached their 140 target with 15 balls to spare.
rutherford, who will be at New Road for the entire summer, shared an opening stand of 71 with neil broom (34) and an unbroken 70 with dean foxcroft (22 not out).
he set the tone for otago’s convincing success by hitting six-four-four off successive deliveries from seth rance.
rutherford, who will play all three formats of the game for worcestershire, collected further sixes at the expense of ajaz patel and george worker.
he finished the game with a boundary off ben wheeler.
central districts had been restricted to 139-6 in their 20 overs – a total which proved inadequate once rutherford had moved into overdrive.
