Worcestershire CCC 2020 signing Hamish Rutherford hit a rapid half century for Otago Volts in their high-scoring Super Smash triumph over home side Auckland Aces.
Opener Rutherford raced to 52 off just 23 balls after Otago had elected to bat in the T20 encounter.
He smashed four sixes and four fours during an opening stand of 84 in just eight overs with Neil Broom before being dismissed.
It was the ideal start to the innings from Rutherford who will be at Blackfinch New Road throughout next summer and available to play all formats.
Broom dominated the remainder of the Otago innings in making 93 off 57 balls out of 210-6.
Auckland made a strong reply with Worcestershire’s 2018 and 2019 signing, Martin Guptill, making 46 off 18 balls.
But, despite an unbeaten 106 from Glenn Phillips, Auckland closed just short of their target on 197-5 to leave Rutherford and his team-mates victorious.
