Worcestershire remain in strong contention in the battle to stay in Division One of the LV = County Championship despite the virtual wash-out of the final two days restricting their points haul to six from the drawn game with Somerset at Taunton.
Skipper Daryl Mitchell's side are in eighth spot – just four points behind Sussex who visit New Road next week from Tuesday, September 1 with play gettng underway each day at 10.30am.
Worcestershire would have fancied their chances of at least partially wiping out that narrow gap with Ross Whiteley and Ben Cox in full flow during a superb unbroken stand of 139 at Taunton.
But, with only 28 runs required for a first batting point and six wickets in hand, the entire final day was washed out.
The game signified the end of Worcestershire's proud record of collecting maximum bowling bonus points from every game this summer.
But their tally of 37 points is still only equalled by fifth placed Durham and is testimony to the efforts primarily of Joe Leach, Jack Shantry and Charlie Morris.
