Worcestershire CCC opener Daryl Mitchell is poised to join a select band during the early part of next season.
The 33-year-old needs just 118 more runs to complete 10,000 in first class cricket for the County.
He will become the 25th Worcestershire player to reach the five figure mark in the club's proud history.
Mitchell actually passed 10,000 runs in his career when hitting two centuries in the home Specsavers County Championship match with Northaptonshire last August.
But 402 of his current overall 10,284 tally were achieved for other teams – 339 for Mountaineers CC in Zimbabwe and 63 for the MCC against Yorkshire in Abu Dhabi in March 2015.
That leaves Badsey born Mitchell's current tally for Worcestershire standing on 9,882 at an average of nearly 40.
Mitchell is the latest in a long line of opening batsman who have been key performers for the County.
Worcestershire's record run scorer Don Kenyon, Glenn Turner, Tim Curtis, Ron Headley and Alan Ormrod all enjoyed great success in that role from the 1950s onwardsand have passed 10,000 runs.
Former chief executive David Leatherdale, who now holds a similar post with the Professional Cricketers' Association, was the last player to achieve the 10,000 run milestone.
