County Honour Ken Mills Mbe With Minute’s Silence

Worcestershire CCC held a minute's silence today in memory of the late Worcestershire Supporters' Association chairman Ken Mills MBE.

Players from Worcestershire and Derbyshire lined up in front of the Graeme Hick Pavilion before the start of the second day's play to honour Ken.

The two teams also wore black armbands during the day's play for the 77-year-old who passed away last week after a long battle against illness.

Ken had been chairman of the Association for 41 years and has left an outstanding legacy at New Road.

He oversaw the purchase of New Road by the Association for the County in 1977 from Worcester Cathedral for £30,000 and was involved in many other projects.

He also helped to organise coach trips to away matches for supporters until they ceased in 2011 and the popular Fifty-Fifty competition during his lengthy term as chairman.

It has been estimated that the Association has raised £6.5 million at current values.

A Thanksgiving Service was held at St. John's Church last week.

Ken is already honoured at New Road – along with late wife Pat who was Association Secretary for 40 years – via a stand in front of the Premier Inn.
