Ollie Westbury scored an excellent century on the opening day of Grafton United’s Auckland Premier Men’s Tom Hellaby Two-Day Championship encounter away to Birkenhead CC.
The Worcestershire CCC batsman came to the wicket at 52-1 in the 16th over and went onto make 121 of Grafton’s 332-9 declared.
Westbury struck 13 boundaries in his 162 ball knock and shared in a third wicket partnership of 101 with Jack Parsons (43).
He was eventually sixth out the total on 245.
Birkenhead reached 29-1 off 12 overs by the close with the game to be concluded next weekend.
Ed Barnard picked up an early wicket in his final two-day appearance for Scarborough in the Western Australia Cricket Association first grade clash with Gosnells.
The Worcestershire all-rounder had been dismissed for 17 off 39 balls with three fours in Scarborough’s all out total
of 254 in 79.4 overs.
But he then made a quickfire breakthrough when Gosnells launched their reply, bowling Luke McNamee (6).
Barnard finished with figures of 4-1-6-1 as Gosnells closed on 12-1.
The game will be completed next Saturday but tomorrow Barnard will be hoping to help Scarborough reach the final of the WACA first grade One-Day competition when they face Claremont-Nedlands.
George Rhodes did not have the opportunity to bowl in the seamer-friendly conditions but was part of the Onslow side which closed out an innings and 55 runs victory on day two of the Rothbury Premier Men’s Pearce and Hazlett Cup match with North City.
North City were dismissed for 92 in their second innings after Onslow had declared at 241-7 – a lead of 147 on the opening day last weekend.
