Jack Haynes was amongst the runs for Herefordshire against a powerful Berkshire side in the Minor Counties Championship – but unable to save his side from an innings defeat.

The Worcestershire CCC batsman and his team-mates faced a 277 first innings deficit after being bowled out yesterday for 49 at Colwall.

Berkshire, who have contested the last three finals of the three-day competition against Lincolnshire, declared on 326-7 as soon as they had collected maximum batting points.

England Under-19s player Haynes went to the wicket at 66-2 and put on 93 for the third wicket with Mahaaz Ahmed (39 off 117 balls).

The Malvern College pupil was fourth out for 69 at 187 after hitting one six and seven fours in his 134 ball knock.

Further resistance came from Jujhar Johal (59 not out) but Herefordshire were dismissed for 270 in 85.5 overs and went under with a day to spare.

Ollie Westbury did not add to his overnight 68 for Shropshire against Dorset at Shrewsbury.

The Worcestershire player faced a total of 133 balls and hit eight fours.

Shropshire, for whom ex Worcestershire player Alexei Kervezee made 77, declared on 344-6 and then Dorset replied with 318-7.
