COUNTY BATSMAN FERGUSON IN RETURN TO SHEFFIELD SHIELD ACTION

callum ferguson will now switch back to red ball cricket during the next month and a half after a successful big bash with the bat for sydney thunder.

the worcestershire 2018 and 2019 batsman will return to sheffield shield action for south australia in just under two weeks time.

ferguson – the rapids second highest run scorer in last summer’s vitality blast – is available to play in the final four games of the group stages and he will be looking to help revive the redbacks fortunes.

they are currently bottom of the six team table in which the top two go straight through to the final starting on march 27.

south australia’s opening fixture when they resume will be against tasmania in adelaide from february 23.

ferguson will have happy memories of the first meeting in hobart as he scored a century and fought a virtual lone hand in the second innings of his side’s defeat.

he also scored two hundreds for south australia in the jlt one-day cup and topped his state’s batting averages with 328 runs at an average of 54.66.

the quartet of sheffield shield games will represent ferguson’s final taste of cricketing action before he returns to New Road on may 1 after getting married in april.

ferguson, who is available for all formats of the game with worcestershire this summer, and south australia’s remaining sheffield shield fixtures are:

february 23-26 – tasmania (adelaide)

march 3-6 – western australia (perth)

march 11-14 – queensland (brisbane)

march 20-23 – victoria (adelaide)
