Club Captain Brett D’Oliveira pipped Jake Libby by less than half a point to finish as Worcestershire’s highest placed player in the PCA Most Valuable Player Overall rankings for the 2023 season.
D’Oliveira scored a combined total of 344.31 points for batting, bowling and fielding incorporating performances in the LV=Insurance County Championship, Vitality Blast and Metro Bank One Day Cup.
It enabled him to go one better than last year when he finished runner-up to Ed Barnard as Worcestershire’s highest ranked player.
Libby totalled 343.91 points – just 0.40 of a point behind D’Oliveira – after a splendid season in which he topped scored for Worcestershire in the County Championship and One Day Cup.
Adam Hose (250.72 points) was placed third after several impressive performances during his first campaign at New Road.
The PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings is a unique algorithm that was originally developed in 2007 by the PCA and the players to identify the most effective players in the game.
The PCA partnered with leading analytics specialists, CricViz, ahead of the 2021 season in order to relaunch the MVP, with key metrics including comparison to average or expected performance in each format now taken into account.
