Clist And Holland Hit Tons But Academy Beaten In High-Scoring Contest

Worcestershire CCC Academy went down by 16 runs in a remarkable Tri-Series game with Northamptonshire Academy at Dumbleton which yielded four centuries and 820 runs.

The home side looked to have pegged back a challenging time with the ball in which Northants amassed 418-6 in their 50 overs after electing to bat.

Worcestershire reached 348-3 in the 36th over in reply thanks to hundreds from Charlie Clist and Dan Holland.

But then they lost their last seven wickets for 54 runs in 11 overs and were bowled out for 402 with still 15 balls remaining of their innings.

When Northants batted, Adam Finch dismissed Harry Gouldstone lbw to the very first ball of the game.

But Ben Claydon (191 from 152 balls, four sixes, 29 fours) and Emilio Gay (110 from 111 balls, one six, 17 fours) added 320 for the second wicket.

Then 50 off 18 balls from Basra boosted the visitors final tally.

Holland picked up three wickets but the only bowler to produce economical figures was Josh Baker who sent down his 10 overs for just 47 runs.

Worcestershire quickly lost Peter Clark (5) in reply but then appeared to have laid the foundations for a remarkable win.

Callum Lea (61 off 44 balls, one six, seven fours) and Clist added 125 for the second wicket.

A further 152 run partnership came from Clist (133 off 73 balls, four sixes, 21 fours) and Holland (106 off 75 balls, three sixes, 11 fours).

Clist was dismissed with the total on 290 in the 29th over and Holland followed 58 runs later after a stand with Josh Breed.

But a run rate of five an over during the final 15 overs proved beyond Worcestershire and wickets tumbled to leave Riecko Parker-Cole unbeaten on 22 when they were bowled out.
