Joe Clarke was dismissed for 10 as England Lions built up a first innings lead of 126 on day two of the three-day warm-up match with the Sri Lanka Board President's X1 in Moratuwa.
The Worcestershire batsman went in at number seven and faced 32 balls and hit one boundary before he fell to off spinner Tharindu Kaushal.
Clarke was seventh out at 256 with the Lions eventually dismissed for 279 in 69.1 overs in reply to the Board X1's 153.
A fifth wicket stand of 136 between Tom Westley (95) and Liam Livingstone (84) formed the bedrock of the Lions innings and rescued them from 69-4.
The home side reached 182-4 in reply – a lead of 56.
Clarke, who is keeping wicket in this game, held three catches in the first innings and was soon back in action behind the stumps.
He held a chance offered by opener Hashan Dumindu before he had scored off the bowling of Toby Roland-Jones with four on the board.
But an unbeaten 91 from fellow opener Ron Chandraguptha held the Sri Lanka innings together.
