Jack Shantry came within six runs of the highest ever score by a Worcestershire player batting at number 10 after his dramatic century against Gloucestershire on day two of the Specsavers County Championship match at New Road.
Shantry was eventually dismissed for 106 from 106 balls with six sixes and 11 fours.
His second 50 was struck off just 14 deliveries in a brutal demonstration of clean hitting against the Gloucestershire attack.
He was last out with the total on 439 after helping to complete a comeback from 34-5 following the earlier efforts of Tom Kohler-Cadmore (169), Ben Cox (75) and Ed Barnard (50).
But a 109 year record stayed just out of the reach of the 28-year-old – also achieved against Gloucestershire. In 1907.
Dick Burrows was batting at number 10 for the County when scoring 112 at New Road against their West Country rivals.
There were similarities to today in the sense of Burrows knock was also part of a recovery process by Worcestershire.
They were 78-4 at one stage but recovered to reach 447 with Burrows shepherding the addition of 193 runs for the last two wickets.
Worcestershire went onto win that match by an innings.
