Carter Takes Three Wickets In An Over As Seconds Seize Control

Paceman Andy Carter picked up three wickets in one over as Worcestershire Seconds seized control on the second day of the four-day encounter with Surrey Seconds at Kidderminster.

Carter, who signed a short term contract with the County, dismissed Nick Welsh (0) and Angus Dahl (0) with the first two balls and then Calvin Harrison (2) with the fifth delivery at the start of Surrey’s second innings.

They had begun 67 runs in arrears on first innings and, with Charlie Morris and triallist Asher Hart also picking up a wicket apiece, closed on 80-5 from 31 overs.

Carter ended the day with the impressive figures of 7-2-15-3 and his new ball partner Morris 7-2-9-1.

Worcestershire had resumed their first innings on 133-5 in reply to Surrey’s 230 and half centuries from Academy player and debutant Callum Lea and Nottinghamshire keeper Tom Keast lifted them into a useful advantage.

Lea, who had resumed unbeaten on 33, went onto complete his half century off 114 balls and he was eventually dismissed for 54 after striking eight boundaries.

He shared in a sixth wicket stand of 67 with Keast whose 64 from 76 deliveries contained one six and nine fours.

Useful lower order runs from Ben Twohig, George Scrimshaw and Carter helped extend the lead.
