Bumpy Pleased With Build-Up To 2017 Campaign

Bumpy Pleased With Build-Up To 2017 Campaign

Steve Rhodes is happy with Worcestershire's build-up to the new campaign and hopes they will peak at the SWALEC Stadium against Glamorgan in tomorrow's Specsavers County Championship opener.

The County undertook an 11 day training camp in Abu Dhabi which featured three days cricket against the North in a 50 over game and a two-day match versus Warwickshire.

Then they faced Somerset in two one-day games at Taunton Vale, Gloucestershire in a two-dayer at RGS Worcester and finally Leeds-Bradford MCCU over three days at Weetwood.

Director Of Cricket Rhodes saw plenty of signs of encouragement with bat and ball against the students and hopes Worcestershire show that extra '10,15, 20 per cent more" against Glamorgan.

He said: "I think we've had a nice build-up. We've done well to get to this stage regarding the injuries and that's also a testament to our medical and strength and conditioning team.

"I think at the moment, where we are, we are very pleased.

"It was a good three days at Weetwood. We played some good cricket. The lads got plenty of runs and we managed to bowl them out twice so that was encouraging.

"There were good performances individually but as a team as well. We shared wickets around, we shared the runs around and that's what we need to do to be really competitive this season is play as a team.

"We wanted to get so many overs into them, we did that. With the ball, we had an odd bad spell from a bowler but generally it was pretty good.

"With the bat, although we got runs we had an odd difficult period which we got through which was great when the ball nipped around a bit.

"Maybe 10, 15, 20 per cent more is what hopefully we will be on Friday and we will give Glamorgan a really tough game.

"We've always wanted to peak at the right time – and Friday is peak time."
