Bumpy Looks For County To Be In “right Frame Of Mind” For Finale To Season

Steve Rhodes says it is important Worcestershire are in the "right frame of mind" for the finale to the season as they look to bounce back from the Specsavers County Championship setback against Glamorgan and Royal London One-Day Cup exit at the hands of Somerset.

Rhodes and the County's players held a lengthy get together after Wednesday's nine wicket defeat at Taunton before being given a few days off to recharge their batteries ahead of next Tuesday's Championship clash with Northamptonshire at New Road.

They will now be looking to claw back the 34 point gap between themselves and Division Two leaders Essex whom they meet at Chelmsford in the penultimate game.

Director of Cricket Rhodes told BBC Hereford-Worcester's Dave Bradley: "We wanted to make sure for the last four games of the season, we are in the right frame of mind.

"We've got a few days now where the lads need to get away from cricket because it has been a really heavy period.

"I wanted to make sure they were going to leave Taunton with some thoughts on how to get better and to make sure when we come back, that we are in the right frame of mind to get some good performances in those last four games.

"It was a chance for people to get off their chest anything they felt they needed to in cleansing for what will be a really important last four games."

Rhodes is looking for his players to try and stamp their authority on the game against Northants instead of playing catch-up which was the case after being 37-5 on the first morning against Glamorgan.

He said: "We need to do what we tried to do against Glamorgan but sadly we didn't do it.

"We wanted to get off to a good start and if you can get off to a good start against some of the teams, you can potentially break them, and sadly for us we were playing catch-up in that Glamorgan game.

"We need to get off to a good start, try and dominate the game and then try to ram it home and get the points that we need."
