pat brown rewrote the record books in helping worcestershire rapids defeat derbyshire falcons in yesterday evening’s vitality blast encounter at New Road.
when luke wood held onto a boundary catch to dismiss falcons batsman matt critchley in the final over of the game, it provided paceman brown with his 22nd victim in the competition this summer.
that enabled brown, who celebrates his 20th birthday later this month, to over-take the previous rapids record-holder in spin legend saeed ajmal.
he had claimed 21 victims in 2015 – his final season with the county.
brown has been remarkably consistent since launching the blast campaign with 0-33 against lancashire lightning at old trafford.
since then his figures have been 3-28, 2-28, 2-14, 3-34, 2-23, 3-31, 2-29, 3-21 and, last night, 2-21 and he is the leading wicket-taker in the country in 2018 in the short format of the game.
only last week official rapids blast captain moeen ali described peterborough-born brown as his ‘go-to’ player for a wicket and he has often been entrusted with bowling the final over.
here is the list of the county’s most successful t20 bowlers on a seasonal basis.
