Barnard’s Four Wicket Blast Puts Queanbeyan In The Driving Seat

Worcestershire all-rounder Ed Barnard returned his best bowling figures of the winter to put his club side Queanbeyan District in a strong position on the opening day of their Australian Capital Territory first grade match with visiting Ginninderra.

The England Under-19 player took the new ball and finished with the impressive figures of 4-40 from 19 overs with seven maidens.

Barnard is top of the Queanbeyan bowling averages with 22 wickets at an average of 20.05 runs apiece and a strike rate of 33.64.

Ginninderra won the toss and Barnard made an early breakthrough in dismissing A. Thumma (18).

But his most decisive spell came when he returned to the attack with Ginninderra well placed at 139-2.

Barnard removed J. Vare (51), L. Christian (1) and R. Healy (72) in quick succession to reduce the visitors to 158-5.

They never recovered from that trio of wickets and were dismissed for 208 in 79.1 overs.

Barnard's previous best figures had been 3-58 against Western District UC and he has also weighed in with the bat, scoring a century against North Canberra Gungahlin and two other fifties.

Queanbeyan reached 47-0 off 14 overs by the close and the match will resume on February 7.
